We’re in Newport, Rhode Island! As we were leaving New London, we saw a lighthouse, New London lighthouse actually, lit up! I managed to catch one picture JUST before it turned off at 6:30 AM- it must be on a timer, it was rather humorous… and opportune!
And this is the lighthouse facing that one- it lights up red and has a fog horn. New London Ledge.
On the way in to the marina this afternoon, we saw a house built upon the rocks!
“…the rains came down and the floods came up, the rains came down…” you know the rest!
This is a decommissioned lighthouse just across the channel from the wise man’s house- Rose Island:
And here is a picture of all the boats we saw on the way into the marina- this is a happening place!!!
Also, we may or may not have seen a 12-meter racing sailboat- just like the ones in the America’s Cup- is this what they look like?
When we got here, Grace and Leo had already scoped the place out and knew all the great places we have to visit!
I’ve decided that this town has some of the feel of St Augustine, but as the Captain put it, “it’s more grown-up.” We’re staying at Bannister’s Wharf- there are some really cool little shops, LOTS of restaurants and ice cream shops everywhere! I had mint gelato- yum-oh! Oh, and here’s a picture of an organ grinder statue: You’re welcome!
Here’s the church in the middle of the little town- it was too pretty not to get a picture of! Trinity Church.
And check out the sky! BEAUTIFUL WEATHER!!!
We went to a place called The Cooke House for dinner- VERY good! It was open to the street, so we could watch all the tourists wandering past! Oh, and the food was awesome.
Tomorrow is a new day- can’t wait! :D
