Was that a cow I just saw?

We are in Charleston. Tropical storm Andrea tried to blow us away, Dorothy-style, but we managed. The wind was rocking the boat pretty hard this morning. It got me up and out of bed by about 5:30.

I'm excited to show you the sunset pictures I took the night before we left Hilton Head (Monday night).

Gorgeous, right?

We left Hilton Head Tuesday morning and went outside instead of staying in the ICW. We arrived in Charleston in the early afternoon. Wednesday Barry and I washed the boat- now she sparkles!- and we all had lasagna for supper. THEN we got to see this:

The sun setting over the Cooper River was a beautiful sight AND the reflection of it onto the clouds behind this barge was too!

We are staying 6 days at the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina, technically in Mt Pleasant, SC, across the Cooper River from downtown Charleston. Next to the marina, the USS Yorktown is beached and serves as a tourist destination. We get to tour it tomorrow night, but here's what we can see from the boat:

There are 5 other Outer Reefs here for this weekend's rendezvous:

De Onions, Creative Edge, Tomahawk, The Gator, and Autumn. And, of course, Risky Business.

I took some pictures of the resort:

Yesterday, I took the hotel's trolley across the big bridge and into town. The trolley stops at the City Market and from there I walked to City Lights- the best coffee shop ever! I had a coconut latte. Really.

Then I walked around to see what I could find. This is a door that is labeled "First black door on the right":

It's almost lunch time- we're all eating as a group. Then we're going for a tour of a real live working plantation. Should be fun. I'll try to take some pictures.

Wish us sunny weather!

Oh, and p.s. THANK YOU, SON! Miss you for real! Be good. :)

My apologies, Your Honor

Hello all :)

I am updating you from Harbor Town Yacht Basin in Hilton Head, SC.

I'm sure you'll be excited to see pictures of me actually working (I know some of you doubt.)
Alice took these as we were leaving Isle of Hope.

Our trip from Isle of Hope to Hilton Head was less than 3 hours. After we got in, I took some pictures of the boat. WITH our fender cleats- we're fancy.

This morning I was able to sleep in a little before I started washing the boat. Also, Barry compounded and waxed the port side. The low floating dock was too good an opportunity to miss out on- and I got to help. yippee. most fun ever.
The upside though is, she sparkles!

The boat across the marina from us is named Good Judgement. Good name, awful spelling. However, I just now read the "judgement" with the extra "e" is the act or process of judging in a court of law. So, the owner's a lawyer. Or a judge. They're being cute. I get it. Who knew there were two spellings? We do now- you're welcome.

Tomorrow we're leaving at sunrise for Charleston- YAY! It's going to be a long day- 9ish hours. Long enough to get plenty of chores finished before we get there.

I'm excited to get to Charleston. We'll be there for a while. I'll update you with pictures soon!

If you're happy and you know it, leave me comment-love!

THE Prince Diamond?!

Hello friends and family!

I am writing about our travels from a marina just outside of Savannah, Georgia. We have had two long, but pleasant traveling days so far.

We stayed on the boat Thursday night- here's a semi-sunset picture for you:

Then we left Doctors Lake at sunrise Friday morning and I set my breakfast down long enough to take some pictures- just for you!

Buckman Bridge:

We have had two very pleasant traveling days. I took some great pictures of our trip through downtown Jacksonville.

The Cummer:

EverBank:

Once we got a little north of the stadium, THREE dolphins joined us! They seemed to be enjoying our wake very much. I took 3 pictures and this is the best one. It is very difficult to take a picture of a happy dolphin from a moving boat.

We had a very pleasant encounter with a sailboat named "Prince Diamond."

With a name like that, I feel like we should know who he is. This encounter prompted a lively conversation between Alice and me about the new Liberacci movie. Matt Damon is going to be in it? And everyone's ok with this?
I digress. My apologies.

On a lighter note, Zephyrhills makes sparkling water: raspberry-lime or orange flavored. It is wonderful and you should try it.
Perhaps with a little vodka.
You're welcome.

Friday night, Barry and Alice's friends Grace and Leo joined us for a very yummy supper at the Coastal Kitchen at Morningstar marina. I had blackened redfish. Best fish I've ever had. We'll likely catch up with Grace and Leo later on as well.

Saturday we didn't leave Brunswick until 10 AM because we had to accommodate for some low tides along the way. I spent little time on the bridge; most of today I was working on Hemingway homework. I learned quite a bit: Ernest and Hadley's son John Hadley Nicanor Hemingway was born in October of 1923. They called him "Bumby."

That's all for today, we'll catch up with everyone once we get to Hilton Head!

They're all my favorite sunset.

Welcome back! It has been a while since this site has been active, but we're headed out again next weekend! This trip will be a quick one, so we'll have to squeeze in the fun! We are headed up to Charleston for another Outer Reef rendezvous. We will take a week to get there, we'll spend a week in Charleston, and then take a week to get back. I can't wait to get back on the water and see some friends we haven't seen in a while! (And I'm sure I'll make some new ones too!)
My sweet roommate gave me a "bon voyage" note and a check list, which should make the pictures I upload fairly interesting...

Let me know if Roomie forgot anything I should be looking out for and I hope you all enjoy reading about our adventures!

Catch ya later!

p.s. I've just recently started an American Lit class that focuses on Ernest Hemingway's masterpieces, so you may get to read about how happy that makes me as well. Depending on how that makes you feel, I'm sorry... or you're welcome!

p.p.s. Those of you who are into specifics should check out Outer Reef's home site. This link will take you to Risky Business' specs.

Fernandina to home! (don't mind the date!)

From Savannah, we went outside, enjoyed beautiful weather, and re-fueled once we got into Fernandina.

Barry and Alice's friends, Jim and Bo met us on the boat and took us to a great Spanish restaurant. We had a blast, ate amazing food, and took a great picture:

and I cleaned my plate. Shocking, I know.

Another great trip over... hopefully another one around the corner?

Do what you like. Like what you do.
